This week, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles awarded a contract to AMG & Associates, Inc. for the renovation of the Pastoral Center at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in the Santa Clarita Valley. The project consists of the renovation of an existing 9,000-square foot, single-story facility that will be converted into the Parish Office Complex. The project marks the construction beginning of a remodel campaign that has been in the works for several years and has been 100% funded by parish parishioners. Work is scheduled to begin late January of 2012, and be completed by the end of Summer 2012.

AMG & Associates, Inc. Vice President/Secretary Tony Traverso attended the groundbreaking for one of the company’s recent projects, Communities in Schools’ (CIS) new Job Training & Opportunity Center, on December 5, 2011. Media organizations ABC7 Eyewitness News and the Los Angeles Daily News were on hand at the Pacoima site to capture the celebration.
In a Los Angeles Daily News interview, William “Blinky” Rodriguez, executive director and CEO of CIS’ San Fernando Valley and Greater Los Angeles operations, hailed the new center as a “beacon of hope in the Northeast Valley.” With a computer lab, classrooms, and a staff of eight case managers, the facility—slated to open in July 2012—will offer a youth leadership institute and programs ranging from life skills to counseling.
The hope is that the center will play a pivotal role in the region’s declining crime rates. Notes AMG President/CEO Albert Giacomazzi, “AMG has built a number of similar facilities for nonprofits across Los Angeles that have achieved their intended goals.”
CIS is a nationally recognized outreach program dedicated to redirecting misguided youth through education, training, and job placement.

Kendall Pavilion at Village Christian Schools Grand Opening
On November 19, 2011, AMG & Associates, Inc. attended the grand opening of the Kendall Pavilion at Village Christian Schools after recently completing the exterior façade and lobby makeover. The company has mobilized the Village Christian Annex and Communities in Schools projects with the start of construction on November 28.
October 28, 2011 – Educators in Industry
AMG & Associates, Inc. (AMG) hosted a daylong event, “Educators in Industry,” at College of the Canyons’ (COC) Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center on October 28, 2011. Ken Pulskamp, City Manager for the City of Santa Clarita, opened the presentation, during which participants discussed a range of industry topics, including the prospect of employment in various fields and required education and training.
As the morning progressed, participants journeyed off-campus to tour area job sites. During this time, AMG President/CEO Albert Giacomazzi took the participants to the construction site of Fire Station 150, on Golden Valley Road in Santa Clarita. One of AMG’s most recent projects, Fire Station 150 is scheduled to go into service in the fall of 2012, and will be the Santa Clarita region’s battalion headquarters and command post during major emergencies.
Following the site visits, the group reconvened at COC to hear Philip Bailey, Dean of the College of Science & Mathematics at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, deliver a keynote address. The attendees then broke into collaborative work groups before the event’s conclusion.

As AMG & Associates continues to grow we are at a transition point for us to hire a full time estimator. Starting August 1, 2011, Tryggvi (pronounced TRIGG VEE) Helgason is our chief estimator. I have personally known Tryggvi for a number of years. We first met while swimming on the Santa Clarita Masters Swim Team. He is an excellent swimmer and previously swam on the Icelandic Olympic swim team.
Tryggvi is originally from Iceland. He worked for his brother, who is a bona fide general contractor, performing all aspects of a project from earthwork through electrical work. He has his Journeyman License from Iceland. Tryggvi received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Cal State University Bakersfield. From 1993-2009, Tryggvi worked for Centex Homes as Director of Construction Operations and Area Construction Manager.
I am confident with Tryggvi’s background, experience, education, knowledge of the industry, and fierce competitiveness; he will be key team member in the future growth of AMG & Associates.

Over $2.2 million was raised for the renovation of Pacific Clinics’ Portals Division facility in South Los Angeles.
This beautiful facility will now serve 50% more consumers annually meeting the growing demand for services in this community. South Los Angeles contains some of the poorest and most disenfranchised individuals in all of Los Angeles County. Of this group, more than a third are suffering from severe mental illness. We are happy to be able to expand our work to meet the needs of these clients.

AMG & Associates has been awarded the contract for Pre-Construction Services for Kendall Pavilion Upgrades for Village Christian Schools (VCS). VCS is enhancing the existing gymnasium to improve its environment to serve as a performance venue. The construction of an annex to the south side of the gymnasium to serve it performing arts capabilities, and exterior/interior improvements to the gym are planned. AMG & Associates is working with NTD Architects and S.L. Leonard & Associates, the construction manager. This is the 2nd contract for AMG & Associates at VCS; our first contract was for the girls and boys restroom remodel.

AMG & Associates, Inc. receives the award of New Fire Station 150 in Santa Clarita California. The award underscores AMG’s commitment to serve the community by focusing on the construction of essential service facilities. The 20,571 square foot, $6.6 Million dollar project will begin in Spring 2011 and is scheduled to complete in Fall of 2012. The project is the 7th fire station awarded to AMG in the last five years.
